The Need:

Improve Public Health in LATAM

The Latin American region faces the complex and persistent triple burden of malnutrition, which includes rising rates of undernutrition, widespread micronutrient deficiencies, and the growing prevalence of overweight and obesity that together strain health systems. National governments, health ministries, and regional organizations continue to prioritize multi-sector initiatives to improve diets, strengthen public health, and address inequalities in access to safe and nutritious foods. Although moderate progress has been achieved over the last decades, the region still carries a disproportionately high disease burden and remains off track to meet key global nutrition targets by 2030.

Dietary quality and dairy intake also vary significantly across countries, influenced by cultural preferences, socioeconomic conditions, and the resilience of local food systems. At the same time, misinformation about the role of dairy in healthy diets and sustainable food systems persists, limiting opportunities for impact. To confront these challenges, stronger collaboration across sectors, increased investment in evidence-based strategies, and clear communication are urgently needed. The time to act is now, before the nutrition gap deepens further.

The Opportunity:

The Latin American Dairy Nutrition Congress

World-class speakers, interactive experiences, engaging sessions and cutting-edge research—all taking place in a beautiful atmosphere unlike any other conference. Please join us in Lima, Peru for the inaugural Latin American Dairy Nutrition Congress – aiming to address the region’s challenges in meeting nutrition-relevant Sustainable Development Goals and World Health Assembly targets – including those related to non-communicable diseases, malnutrition, hunger and food insecurity.

Hosted by the U.S. dairy community, working in concert with the NutriLact Scientific Advisory Committee, the Latin American Dairy Nutrition Congress aims to discuss the latest evidence on nutrient adequacy and healthy diets by focusing on the ‘‘Generational Nutrition and the Role of Dairy.” The Congress will follow a life stage approach through six thematic tracks, with various presentations and panel sessions that highlight the role of a healthy diet in pregnancy, child health, cardiometabolic health, micronutrient deficiencies and more. Bringing together leading scientists, health professionals, agriculture experts and local government officials, the goal of the Congress is to address strategies and identify opportunities for national recommendations and programming, and clinical nutrition research and application – all to improve nutrition and public health across the lifespan in the Latin American region.
